Constant green creativity: A Classic

Classic idol and filmmaker, Charles Chaplin, was a genius in his time. Classic directors such as him were all geniuses with their ingenious method of creating the perfect seven art. The differences between their clever filmmaking skills and the filmmakers of our time was their intricate, palpable; physical hands-on method of do-it-yourself innovation. It’s not that such a statement wants to diminish the wonders created by the masterminds of today, but back then, there were no computers around to fix errors, no green screen, no special effects. With just “rocks and sticks” those magicians birthed a form of art that told a stories that transcend time. Brilliant!

Now meet Katrina Cristobal. Katrina can be called a modern day Charles Chaplin-esque character in her own ‘film’ Eclectica which began in 2006. Katrina, a young entrepreneur that sculpts secondhand furniture into a contemporary new item of décor, molds past and present, old and new, used and reused; she switches up the purpose of said item; what was once used to hold now hangs, what was once used to sit now stands. She mixes up mediums, she combines textures, colors, moods and she creates.

There might not be, any green screen or assembly line machinery in her inventions, but the word green transcends and stays in her Eclectica collection. Reason being all of her crafty “rocks and sticks” materials are recycled.

Visiting her e-store and describing her merchandise can be as silly and entangling as a conversation with the Matt Hatter, but it’s just as fun. Find plates as décor hanging  on walls, find ceramic coffee cups sitting on top of candlesticks as pen holders, or even dress your shoulder with a shirt bag and help save some plastic bags and contribute to more of the green revolution.

Also, if you happen to have wonderland ideas and want to “do-it-yourself” she is offering workshop for the DIY directors. Or, if you have tricks and jokes to write down, check out her clever record cover notebooks. These peculiar blank books with rock-and-roll soul can be found at SWEAT Records , Miami’s record shop, café and your portal to the best music. Brilliant!
