“Let me describe my first encounter with Z-Stone, since a short description won’t do him justice: at first glance Z-Stone, a Stone Groove fixture, is unassuming. He was quietly perched on one of the couches, awash in the glow of The Vagabond bar room’s dim red lights, waiting patiently for his turn on the microphone. Clad in a trench coat, fedora, and ammo belt full of harmonicas, he caught my eye, but the musician I had heard so much about struck me as soft-spoken.
As soon as he stepped up to the microphone, he transformed. His dapper demeanor instantly vanished as the 3rd Party band launched into a rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “Dazed and Confused.” I’d heard the song covered before, but this time I was listening to something else entirely. Z-Stone’s wailing harmonica melodies and forceful vocals molded this 60s rock staple into something else entirely: a tune wafting through the air at a 1930s juke joint; an electric blues balled ringing through a downtown Chicago blues club circa 1965. It was more than a unique take on a classic; it evoked the music that inspired the song in the first place.
This time around, Z will be the featured act of the night, and he’ll put on a performance that won’t be forgotten.”

FRIDAY::: February 5, 2010
This Friday we’ve got electronic act Million Young performing. You know those long nights that you end up watching the sunrise at 6AM, talking about god knows what, while joggers shoot you quizzical glances as to why you’re still in last nights’ clothes? That’s what Million young sounds like. Smooth and billowy electronic music, but still lots of fun.
We also have Laura of Miami from WVUM doing a guest DJ spot in the main room. She is the programming and music director of University of Miami’s Radio station WVUM (that’s 90.5 on the dial). I’m sure she’s got more music than she knows what to do with so it should be a great set.

The Dirty Girl will bear witness to dance floor destruction via Nu-Disco pioneers Hercules & Love Affair (DFA Records).
You’ll recognize their 2008 track “Blind”,” voted “Best Track of 2008″ by Pitchfork media. It also enjoyed a remix by house music’s godfather Frankie Knuckles: http://bit.ly/9ts20v
They haven’t slowed down, recently spawning a damn fine 808-infused remix of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.”
With a warm-up set by Brad Strickland.
