The Constellations

Litsen to:::Setback- The Constellations

Sometimes, when you are going to listen to a new artist, your ears instinctively put on a devil’s tail and don the skeptic’s cap when you examine the new material. It usually takes a couple of replays to get in tune with the melodies and nod your head to the rhythm.

Luckily, for the pray in hand, its first track sounds something like The Constellations’ first single “Setback.” And your ears will undress their pragmatic smile and put on some angel wings to dive into the rebellious and seductive voice of vocalist Elijah Jones and his pa-pa-pa, pa-pa-pa-pas.

The Constellations surely have all their stars aligned and shining bright because each track of their debut album, Southern Gothic, is a road trip of its own. It’s a sticky, sexy, chewable sound with addicting rock and roll flavors.

It steals you from your reality into jamming, dancing, and enjoying those whispered rolled-up tongued words of Elijah from one song, or planet, to the next. From the first drum beats, to the increase of the tempo and the provocative lyrics of the 70s inspired song, Felicia “So sexy when your working in your knees girl, give me that lipstick kiss, Felicia, oh I need ya,” to the shot-up phrases of rapper Asher Roth on “We’re here to save the day.”

Atlanta’s made stars, The Constellation, came from the indie nightlife scene of that city, mixing up punk, funk and hip-hop beats to present Southern Gothic June 8, 2010, on EMI’s Virgin Records.  Produced by Ben H. Allen (Animal Collective, Gnarls Barkley)
