It’s true: I’m picky when it comes to vintage — mostly because I have my own vintage shop [Total Recall Vintage] – but I have to admit, Supadupa Vintage has some super cute pieces. Maxi skirts, pretty pastels and high waists are what fills this store’s online catalog.
They also make their own line of fun shredded tees that can be described in one word: delicious! Off the shoulder, light weight, and one of a kind, each tee is hand-made by owner and designer Tatiana Bolanos.
Bolanos and I have definitely something very special in common: we look for vintage, love vintage and would die for vintage. Indeed, we needed to have a talk.
Christine Bourie: When did you start selling vintage clothing and what made you decide to start your own shop?
Tatiana Bolanos: I started selling vintage 6 years ago. I was a sophomore in High School, been loving vintage since then, and I would always go to thrift stores and shop! One day it just came to me that I should sell the clothing I find so I bought a couple of things and started selling them at Flea.
What is your favorite decade in terms of fashion?
60′s and 70′s! My new Line for S/S 2011 is inspired by the 1960s! Independent, Chic, Powerful Women. I love the 60′s because of all the high waisted shorts, rompers, and pastel colors. The 70′s I enjoy because of flared pants, shoes, and of course, you can’t forget the crochet dresses.
How did you start making your amazing shreddies?
I started in 2009 by making them on my own, for myself. I was working with a jewelry designer at the time and she really loved them. All my friends would compliment the shredded shirts I would make for myself and that’s when I thought, “well why not make these shredded tees part of my Supadupa Vintage co. as a sort of mini collection?” That’s how it all began.
Tell us about some of your celebrity clients.
All of them are super fabulous for supporting my clothing company! I never expected that my shirts would be on celebs, but it’s a blessing and I’m so thankful! I will say though: I woke up one day, went on my computer and saw a new transaction from Kat Von D. I couldn’t believe it since I always watch her show L.A Ink! It was such a great feeling! It made my day.
What’s in store for SDVTG in 2011? Any resolutions?
My new constructive line for S/S 2011, to expand and maybe move my company to Los Angeles. That’s where I’m from and want to be - perhaps have a little office in L.A. I would also like to carry more indie designers in the store in which I’m currently working on.
