Yes, another year of Ultra Music Festival has come and gone. Perhaps our dazed and confused mental state during the WMC/MMW/UMF two weeks of partying lends a sudden departure aspect that makes you both thankful and sad to watch the circus leave town. This years UMF wasn’t much different from years past with some of the worlds best Djs dropping hard hitting beats, cool cats rocking funky dope costumes, and way too many dudes sporting bad tattoos.

Aside from the main stage, which felt like the same beat was being dropped the entire time, there was magic happening musically in Miami. Laidback Luke, Crystal Castles, and Glitch Mob all had fresh new tunes that cut the place up. However it was Afrobeta, a two-person homegrown wrecking crew that straight killed it.

They first tore up the UMF radio stage Saturday with the sunset as a backdrop. With his bopping afro and banging beats, Tony Smurphio masterly guides his partner in rhyme with some dirty south bass. Cuci Amador was simply spectacular, with her powerful stage presence and lyrical lips. Completely captivating the entire audience, she shed light while the sun dipped out. It was so refreshing to see them both so willingly share the light with each-other and friends as well, bringing on stage a professional whistler, a dude who spit some trippy lines, and a whole crew of dancers/backup singers . You could feel the love being passed around like torch. Afrobeta was next scheduled for the closing act on the Live stage Sunday at 11:45 p.m. The masses are catching onto this duet fast, and I am betting Afrobeta will blow you away in their process of blowing up.
