No one that has seen a live performance of Telekinetic Walrus and the Pride of Ions would deny that they are one of the most intense electronic acts from Miami.
Every time Aleah, Wyatt, Jake and Charlie go up on stage it feels as if a dense green smoke spreads across the room turning the whole place into a shamanic ritual. Half-naked creatures with fluorescent faces and bodies, dance to the beats that come from the very inside of the Telekinetic Walrus warriors.
This coming Art Walk the experience will take place at the Awarehouse during ENVISION, the forth episode in a series of events organized by TW showcasing the best of Miami’s underground art, music and culture. On Saturday night Telekinetic Walrus will be performing live for the first time in five months, and Dusthead, a cosmic beats creator, will be releasing his debut album.

WFK: Telekinetic Walrus’ musical concepts, as well as your live performances, are imbued with mysticism. Where does that mysticism come from?
It happens to be channeled directly from the universe and all that surrounds us at all times. In our current mode of perception, that which we may refer to as mystical, orphic, or perhaps even esoteric, can be latched onto and transmitted into the brain, and therefore, mind, of any anthropomorphic creature on our beautifully unusual planet. This characteristic is a gift from The Grand Creator, so that we may always be able to tap into the infinite ether.
Your sound blends the organic and tribal with the digital and electronic. Was this the sound intended since the inception of Telekinetic Walrus?
We can assure you, that no sound you will ever hear from Telekinetic Walrus and The Pride of Ions arises as an intention. They are only born out of fortuity, 100% of the time.
Fearless and intense, your shows have a punch-in-your-face-impact, blowing people’s minds when they experience you for the first time. Is the response from the public part of your show?
I would say that the response is more of a reaction to the show. Although, it could very well be a simultaneous reaction while watching the show. In which case, I would say it only feeds wood to the belly of the fire. Walrus fire.
Among all the projects in which the Telekinetic Walrus family is working on, there is a T-shirt company, called “Rah Threads”. Where did that idea come from, and where can we buy some of your stuff?
The idea for Rah Threads (which is available on www.rahthreads.com and at all of our shows) developed out of a genuine desire to give our fans a way to sport some splendid and exclusive Walrus wear. Since we handprint every shirt, they are limited, short-run lines. Artists in the Telekinetic Family create each design, whether the shirt is a Telekinetic Walrus shirt, or purely art. So far, Rah Threads offers t-shirts and panties, although we have plans to extend our operations to other types of apparel in the near future.
Telekinetic Walrus released their first album in September 2010; then BREATHE: The Dusty Elk Lung EP, Part One, came earlier this year. I heard you’re currently you are working on an upcoming release; can you give us a hint of how it will sound?
Natural, yet strange, intense, yet sensible, eccentric, yet inevitable, melodious, yet ruthless, rhythmic, yet fluidic, and overall, badass.
First came Rebirth, and then Grow, followed by Breathe, and now Envision, all of them multimedia events organized by Telekinetic Walrus featuring all kinds of Miami underground artists. Where do you think the importance of interacting with artists from different disciplines and backgrounds lies? What is the intention behind these events?
The importance of interacting with artists from different disciplines and backgrounds lays in the innate human characteristic of experimentation. Artists must experiment in order to create art; therefore we decided that it was a good idea to conduct some large-scale experiments, in the form of a few one-night hooplas, and to invite all the good folks from around the world to participate in the testing of these experiments. The intention behind our events is to unify influential artists so that one-day we may all take over the world for the benefit of humankind. Also, we like to have a good time.
On Saturday, at Envision, one of your artist friends, an ancient cosmic beat conjurer, called, “Dusthead,” is going to release his debut LP. Can you tell us, what did you experience when you heard his new stuff and why people shouldn’t miss this awesome performance?
Upon first encountering Dusthead, the experience was bewildering. Something akin to suddenly realizing that you have been an alien deer or some other sort of ruminant mammalian alien creature for your whole life and your parents are an alien giraffe named “Shelly” and an alien platypus named “Dan”. People won’t want to miss Dusthead, because if they do, they might be relegated to forever wander a world where Katy Perry has astoundingly prolific lyrics, and Kanye West and Justin Bieber are groundbreaking innovators. We wouldn’t wish that on even the most evil of The Grand Creator’s enemies.
