Smile Miami, Art Basel is around the corner! Every year artists from all over the world invade Miami and bring with them a multitude of color, paint, sculpture, design, photos, videos, and anything above and beyond the norm. Start making up a good excuse to miss work because the first week of December is going to be a free for all. Being that there are hundreds of different galleries to go to and parties to attend, we here at WFK are going to give you the skinny on the best of the best so you can take a bite out of Art Basel. Get ready for a mouthful.

THE MIAMI BEACH CONVENTION CENTER

“An exclusive selection of more than 250 leading art galleries from USA, Canada, Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia will exhibit 20th and 21st century artworks by more than 2,000 artists. On show are exceptional pieces by both renowned artists and cutting-edge newcomers. Special sections (listed at left, with their participating galleries) will feature projects by emerging artists, new artworks, public art projects, performances, video and sound art. ”

This is the big one so knock it out of the way as soon as possible. The convention center is usually the busiest on the weekend so sneak out of the office or take a two hour lunch break and get a load of the amazing works.

The world premiere of Isaiah Seret and Neckface’s Born Under a Bad Sign, presented by Friends of Gusman, Onward + Forward, and The, WILL CREEP YOU OUT! In a good way. Leave it to NeckFace to bring the scary shit to Basel this year. This new film promises to be a “horror-action” film with very dark and demonic elements. Speaking of Demons…. SALEM will also be performing at this wonderful event! If you don’t know who Salem is picture a Trio straight from hell playing electronic spooktacular music and remixed hip hop beats. This show is sure to be unique and fun for the whole haunted family.

Oh hey Bardot, kudos for having such an exciting lineup this year! MOBY. Really? I’m impressed and can’t wait to see Neon Indian as well. As you can see Bardot is brining the fire by  having Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem as well as special surprise guests  for their DFA party Saturday December 3rd.  Check it out & go to Gigi for a late night snack while you are at it.  ”Miami’s Independent Thinkers and The Awarehouse will play host to the FIRST Art Basel Art Battle “A Blank Canvas”. For 90 minutes, four well-known local muralists will battle it out to the beats of DJ, Mick Boogie! The winner will be determined by applause.” Featuring Rage Johnson, CP1, Franky Cruz & Krave.  I can’t wait to smell all the paint in the air. This is the perfect event to attend on a Friday right before going out.
